Speaking of "Aging Outrageously"

When Nancy speaks to your group or organization about "aging outrageously", growing older will never feel the same.  Mostly funny, partly serious, this experience will offer a real-life example of entering the prime of your life at 60 and demonstrate "being yourself" with no apology.  Guaranteed fun as well as thought-provoking, Nancy speaks about our cultural imperative to "age gracefully and fade into gray" with whole-hearted irreverence and openly shares her extraordinary journey toward wholeness.

Nancy Edwards

Nancy Edwards is an LICSW (clinical social worker) with 30 years in the helping field. She has a private practice in her home by day, and dances nearby on most evenings.

Nancy_the_therapist_1It was only one year ago that she discovered her "hidden gift" of dance. Having treated depression, anxiety, and a host of other human emotional afflictions, she has found yet another way to model joy for people who've lost hope: through dance.

In addition to being a gifted therapist, Nancy is a poet, a writer, a classical piano player, home decorator, volunteer and mother of three thriving adults.  Although their mother's new "career" path puzzles her adult children, her seven grandkids are delighted to have such an unusual grandma.  Nancy's 12-year old grand daughter has even taught her some rather lewd new dance moves.

Nancy's "mid-life crisis" hit about twenty years late, so she's in the throes of being a born-again forty.  That's OK - we're all benefiting as there are so few models of aging happily (not gracefully)!

At a time when many if not most women begin to disappear and lose vitality, Nancy is, like Ruth Gorden's character in Harold & Maude, showing us a different way to "be".  She's happened upon a well-kept secret: "age forgives unconventional behavior".  God help us when she's 80!!!!
