I learned that in NYC when someone tells you that a person will "pick you up" at a given time, they DON'T mean by car! They mean someone will WALK you to your destination! Crystal "picked me up" around noon and walked me for blocks to a small nightclub where the TV crew was waiting to tape me dancing with a handful of young guys who volunteered to do this. A couple of women were also there to emulate a nightclub scene.
The music started and I quickly forgot that I was being filmed and just got down. After what felt like hours, the men were told to line up in front of me then, one by one, each was "given" 30 seconds to show me their dancing "stuff". It was a Bachelorette model with me getting to choose my #1 partner!
I got back to the hotel just in time to sit in the lounge with some fellow Minnesotans and watch the Twins/Detroit game. Mary and her three daughters flew into NYC around 8 that night. She was taken directly to the studio to have her interview taped, while the three girls were brought to me. They weren't in the hotel room five minutes before Bree (13) was ordering dinner from room service.
Poor Mary - she'd not been prepared for being taped! She had no make up on and her hair was flattened by the rain & wind. She later told me that she felt the questions were not only "leading", but leading her into saying negative things about me. Her presence was requested on this show as the "daughter of a mother dating younger men who had some concerns with this". She said it made her feel like she was raining on my parade.
None of us could get to sleep easily as all of this was so exciting. By midnight however, we set the alarm for 6AM because we were to be "picked up" by 7:30 Thursday morning - the day of the big show.

Its funny how people interpret different sayings depending on where they reside. I wish I could live in New York...I really like just being able to walk everywhere and "pick up" people by walking. Its so nice!
